AC Milan aiming for two Italian centre backs as they look to agree renewal with Mike Maignan
A month ago it looked like everything was set for Mike Maignan to leave AC Milan at the end of this season. Now the opposite is case as Maignan is close to agreeing a contract extension. The change has come as head coach Massimiliano Allegri has put an emphasis on defence if Milan are to win the Scudetto.
Allegri wasn’t the only one to work on the separation between Maignan and Milan. Igli Tare was also on the front lines according to reports from TuttoSport. Milan and Maignan are very close to agreeing on the deal, with the biggest obstacle in front of them is actually putting pen to paper.
Maignan will earn 5.5 million euros per season on his deal a far more achievable number then some early request. Some early reports stated that Maignan would earn up to 8 million euros per season. This figure is something that Milan or any other Serie A club can spend on a goalkeeper.

Milan will also look to make the deal even better for Maignan as they look to make improvements to their defence on the pitch. This has lead to them wanting two Italian names in January. One has been on Milan’s radar for a while who is Federico Gatti from Juventus.
However, their still isn’t any precedent on Gatti being for sale especially with the chance of Teun Koopmeiners being on his way out. (read more here) For there to be any chance of Gatti leaving Juventus they would need the approval of head coach Luciano Spalletti.
This has lead to Milan looking towards a new Italian name, Diego Coppola. Coppola could look to make a move back to Serie A from Brighton and Milan could try to bring him in on a loan to buy. However, they aren’t the only team viying for his signature with Genoa and Torino both always interested. While Milan can offer history and name Genoa and Torino both can’t they can offer more game-time for the young Coppola.
