Aston Villa set to end talks with Juventus for Emiliano Martinez

Juventus have been linked to signing a goalkeeper for most of the summer. This comes as they want to take this summer transfer window to address their main weaknesses. Goalkeeper is one of these as Michele Di Gregorio had a poor 2026 with the Bianconeri. Di Gregorio lacklustre performances cost Juventus points on many occasions.

This could have likely cost Juventus a Champions League spot for this season. The Bianconeri finished fifth sixth last season, two points off a Champions League spot. While, Mattia Perin did start some games in the place for Di Gregorio last season, he wasn’t good enough for a full campaign. This is why Juventus began the search for a new goalkeeper.

Emiliano Martinez seemed to be the perfect target as he was open to a move to Serie A this summer. Juventus then begun contact with him and his agents, as they thought his experience and quality made him a perfect number one. The two then agreed on a deal very quickly on a contract for three years for Martinez.

But, one major obstacle stood in the way of Juventus, which was Aston Villa. They were open to moving on from Martinez for next season because of his age, but wanted to do so at the right price. Villa set a demand of 15 million euros to sell Martinez this summer while Juventus hoped to spend 5 million and keep any deal under 10 million.

Villa weren’t open to this to say the least. They wanted at least 12 million euros to let Martinez, their starting goalkeeper leave. Both clubs continued on slowly in talks, but agreed that things would ramp up. The World Cup is now over but TEAMtalk is reporting that the opposite is set to happen, as negotiations will end.

This comes as Villa have decided not to sell Martinez for next season. They see him as their starting goalkeeper for the majority of next season, and then eventually handing off the roles to a younger name for the future. Martinez now joining Juventus is now all but impossible, as the Bianconeri will have to start looking for alternatives.
