Bologna have seen an uprise of success in their recent history, as the club shifted their focuses. They started to look towards holding on to youth talent as they way for them to go forward. This was instead of the typical model which was to buy players from below and try to be successful sporting wise to pay off debts.

This new focus has worked extrendorinaly well for Bologna, qualifying for Uefa Champions League two years ago and winning the Coppa Italia last season. This success has seen the big sides like Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan rush to copy their formula, setting up U23 sides to play in Serie B.

Bologna saw these success as bright spots but other sides saw this as a temporary rise in form. This was because they would sell of these young talents instead of holding onto them, and building a project for the future. This was due to the sales of young players such as Riccardo Calafiori and Joshua Zirkzee.

Now however, they have shifted their focus to try and hold onto these young players and build a squad for the future, This philosophy has been supported by a new piece of news from Nico Schira via X. This is that they are looking to extend the contract of Argentinian striker Santiago Castro.

Castro came on to the scene strong last season, playing in 47 games for Bologna last season. This lead to him earning 17 goals/assists and earning the trust of the coaching staff. This has been rewarded this season with more game time, seeing him score 4 goals already this campaign, and soon a contract extension until 2030.

Atalanta pulled of a magical comeback, on Wednesday against Borussia Dortmund. A 2-0 loss in Dortmund gave them little chance of advancing but they managed to pull it off. It wasn’t without drama however, as Lazar Samardzic won the tie for Atalanta in the 98th minute from a spot kick.

This is even more impressive considering that Atalanta lost two of their best players from last season. Matteo Retegui left Atalanta last summer to join Al Qadsiah. Then in January, Ademola Lookman left to join Atletico Madrid, after being unhappy with the club.

These huge losses now represent what Atalanta is becoming as a club. Large sales are now apart of their reputation, with them bringing out young players to sell for profit. It is hard to see this changing as well as both Ederson and Marco Carnesecchi could be sold this summer in similar fashion.

However, recent reports from Matteo Moretto state that the opposite could happen for Marco Carnesecchi, with him instead choosing to stay with Atalanta. Carnesecchi will renew his contract with the intention of staying in Bergamo for his future. Ederson however, could still be on his way out of the door.

Carnesecchi staying with Atalanta, could have massive ramifications within Serie A. Juventus were preparing to make a serious attempt to sign him this summer. This comes as they aim to replace Michele Di Gregorio this summer, and could now look to Guglielmo Vicario.

This would then put them into direction competition with Inter Milan, as they look for a new goalkeeper. If Inter miss out on Vicario because of Juventus they could make a big move to sign Mile Svilar. Roma are open to selling Svilar having Elia Caprile from Cagliari ready as a replacement.
